Double-Mind
"How long will you waver between two opinions?" (1 Kings 18:21). The spirit of this age seeks to hold the hand of the world while grasping for God, but Scripture is clear: no one can serve two masters. The Greek word for double-minded is dipsychos, meaning "two-souled." It describes not a moment of doubt, but a condition of divided loyalty that leads only to instability. As James warns, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8, KJV). Yet God does not expose our division to shame us, but to heal us. He longs to give us a single mind stayed on Him, kept in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Where we are fractured, Christ is undivided. On the cross, He exchanged our divided hearts for His wholeness. The power to become single-minded is found not in striving, but in beholding the One who was perfectly faithful for us.
Three Steps to Purify the Heart:
Identify the Baals: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the idols competing for your allegiance—comfort, approval, money, or fear. Name them before the Lord. Confession is the first step toward liberation; you cannot surrender what you will not acknowledge.
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus: You cannot become single-minded by trying harder. Set aside daily time to behold Christ in Scripture. Worship is the furnace in which a divided heart is melted into one. As you gaze upon His perfect obedience, the things of earth grow strangely dim.
Take a Stand in Faith: Take one concrete action this week that declares your loyalty to God over the world. This may be a difficult conversation, a financial decision requiring trust, or turning from compromise. Let your "yes" be "yes." Step out knowing the God who calls you empowers you.
If your heart cries, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" take courage. The Father runs to meet you even when your heart is divided. Come honestly, and He will not cast you out. Choose this day whom you will serve, for He has already chosen you.
