THE TOOL OF SPIRITUAL ENTRAPMENT: Exposing the Snare Of The Enemy

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." (Galatians 5:1, KJV)

This is not a suggestion. This is a command.

Beloved, I am coming to you from a place of deliverance.

I am not writing to the one who has never been trapped. I am writing to the one who has been set free—but somehow found themselves back in chains. I am writing to the one who tasted liberty, but now feels the weight of bondage creeping back in. I am writing to the one who has been entangled by the enemy's oldest tool—and doesn't even realize it.

If you are still basking in the freshness of your deliverance, this word may feel heavy. Put it down. Celebrate your freedom. But if you have been free for months, years, even decades—and yet you find yourself stuck, stagnant, or snared—then hear me. This word is for you.

The Unmasking

The enemy is a master craftsman. He does not always come with brute force—sometimes he comes with subtlety. He does not always attack head-on—sometimes he lays a trap.

His primary tool of spiritual entrapment is not always sin. Sometimes it is religion. Sometimes it is fear. Sometimes it is offense. Sometimes it is unforgiveness. Sometimes it is pride disguised as humility.

The enemy knows that if he can entangle you, he can neutralize you. A trapped believer is a powerless believer. A snared saint is a silent saint. And a silent saint is no threat to his kingdom.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12, KJV)

You are not wrestling with people. You are wrestling with spirits. And the enemy has been using the same tools of entrapment for thousands of years.

The Tool of Religious Entrapment

One of the enemy's most effective tools is religion without relationship.

He takes the things of God—prayer, fasting, worship, scripture—and turns them into rituals that have no power. He convinces you that if you just do the right things, you will be free. But doing is not being. Activity is not authority.

"Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." (2 Timothy 3:5, KJV)

You can pray every day and still be trapped. You can read your Bible and still be bound. You can go to church and still be entangled—because the enemy has convinced you that performance equals freedom. But freedom is not found in what you do—it is found in who you are in Christ.

The tool of religious entrapment says: "If you just try harder, pray longer, fast more—you will break free." But that is works, not grace. And works keep you exhausted, not free.

The Tool of Offense

Another tool the enemy uses is offense.

He sends people into your life, sometimes even people in the church—to wound you. And when they wound you, he whispers: "You have every right to be angry. You have every right to be bitter. You have every right to withdraw."

And suddenly, you are trapped—not by your enemy, but by your offense.

"And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me." (Matthew 11:6, KJV)

Jesus knew that offense would be a snare. He knew that wounded people would become offended people. And offended people become stuck people. They cannot move forward because they are too busy looking backward.

Let me tell you something plainly: offense is a trap. It keeps your eyes on the person who hurt you instead of the One who saved you. It keeps you bound to your past instead of walking in your future. It is the enemy's tool to keep you entangled in what was done to you instead of what was done for you.

The Tool of Unforgiveness

Unforgiveness is perhaps the enemy's most effective tool of spiritual entrapment.

It is a spiritual anchor that keeps you tied to your abuser. It is a chain that binds you to the very person you wish you could forget. And while you are busy holding onto your unforgiveness, the enemy is holding onto you.

"And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." (Mark 11:25-26, KJV)

Unforgiveness does not hurt the one who hurt you, it hurts you. It keeps you in a prison that only you have the key to. And yet, you hold onto it as if it is protecting you.

Let me be bold: unforgiveness is spiritual suicide. It cuts you off from the flow of God's grace. It stops your prayers. It blocks your healing. And it keeps you trapped in the very place God has called you out of.

The Tool of Fear

Fear is another tool the enemy uses to entrap the believer.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV)

Fear is not from God. It is a spirit. And it is one of the enemy's most effective tools to keep you from walking in your calling.

Fear says: "What if you fail? What if they reject you? What if you fall again? What if God doesn't come through?"

And fear entraps you in a cycle of anxiety and inaction. It paralyzes you. It keeps you from stepping out. It keeps you from speaking up. It keeps you from walking in the authority God has given you.

But the Word of God says: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

The enemy knows that if he can keep you afraid, he can keep you small. And a small believer is no threat to his kingdom.

My Testimony – From Entrapment to Freedom

Let me tell you something personal.

For years, I was entrapped by the enemy's tools. I was caught in the snare of religious performance—thinking that if I just did enough, prayed enough, sacrificed enough, I would finally be free. But I was exhausted. I was empty. I was trapped.

I was also trapped by offense. I had been wounded by the church—by leaders who silenced me, by brothers and sisters who rejected me, by a system that told me I had no voice. And I held onto that offense like a shield. I thought it was protecting me. But it was entrapping me.

And I was trapped by unforgiveness. I didn't want to forgive. I didn't think they deserved it. And in my refusal to forgive, I was the one who remained bound.

But one day, one glorious, life-changing day—I realized that the only person keeping me in that prison was me. The enemy had laid the trap. But I was the one who stayed in it.

I had to make a choice: stay trapped or walk free.

I chose freedom.

I chose to release the offense. I chose to forgive—not because they deserved it, but because I deserved freedom. I chose to stop performing and start living in the grace of God.

And I am here to tell you: you can make that same choice today.

How to Break Free from Spiritual Entrapment

First, identify the trap. You cannot break free from something you refuse to name. Is it offense? Unforgiveness? Fear? Religion? Pride? Look at your life. Look at where you are stuck. Name it. Call it out. The enemy operates in darkness—but when you bring the light of truth, the trap is exposed. "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." (Ephesians 5:11, KJV)

Second, repent. Repentance is not just saying "I'm sorry." It is turning away. It is changing direction. It is saying, "I am done with this trap. I am done with this offense. I am done with this fear. I am turning back to God." "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out." (Acts 3:19, KJV)

Third, forgive. Forgive the one who hurt you. Forgive the one who offended you. Forgive the one who betrayed you. Not because they deserve it—but because you deserve freedom. "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." (Ephesians 4:32, KJV)

Fourth, speak the Word. “Death and life are in the power of the (your) tongue” (Proverbs 18:21, KJV). Stop speaking defeat. Stop speaking fear. Stop speaking offense. Start speaking what God says about you. Declare your freedom. Declare your victory. Declare your authority. "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11, KJV)

Fifth, walk in your authority. You are not a victim. You are a victor. You are not trapped. You are free. You are not powerless. You have been given power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). Walk in it. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." (Galatians 2:20, KJV)

A Prayer for Deliverance from Spiritual Entrapment

Let us pray. Father, I come before You in the name of Jesus. I renounce every tool of spiritual entrapment that the enemy has used against me. I expose the snares of offense, unforgiveness, fear, and religious performance. I break their hold over my life. I forgive every person who has wounded me—not because they deserve it, but because I deserve freedom. I release every offense. I let go of every grudge. I choose to walk in love, even when I don't feel like it. I renounce the spirit of fear. I declare that You have not given me a spirit of fear—but of power, love, and a sound mind. I take back my authority. I take back my voice. I take back my destiny.

I am not trapped. I am free. I am not entangled. I am released. I am a child of the Most High God, and nothing shall by any means hurt me. From this day forward, I walk in liberty. I walk in victory. I walk in the fullness of who You created me to be.

In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

Final Charge

Stop accepting the enemy's trap as your normal. Stop settling for bondage when freedom has already been purchased for you. Stop believing the lie that you are stuck, that you are too wounded, that you are too far gone.

You are free. Walk in it.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." (Galatians 5:1, KJV)

Rise up. Shake off the entanglements. Put on your armor. Walk in your freedom. The world needs warriors, not captives. The world needs overcomers—not victims. The world needs you—unentangled, unashamed, and fully free.

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8:36, KJV)

Press forward. Speak the Word. Walk in your freedom. And never let the enemy trap you again.

Press forward in Jesus Name,
